Videos are an Attractive Medium for Advertisers in 2009

Joel Gales Sullivan

Media Post Publications recently published an article on the growing use of video in online advertising campaigns. While most of our Godengo clients are using video creatively on their sites, there is room for growth with advertisers. Here are some of our suggestions:

  • Add video to Geobase featured or premium listings to catch the user's eye and bring the experience of the product to life. While it's nice to have a photo in a Geobase restaurant listing showing the house specialty, it's a wholly different experience for the user to watch a video of the chef preparing that dish.

  • Sell video spots along with sponsored sections of your site.

  • Create a videos section for your site and find a sponsor for that.

  • Find bloggers who have the capability to create cheap blog spots on video. As these grow in popularity, offer your advertisers the opportunity to sponsor the blog.

If the advertiser doesn't have a video created yet, there is an abundance of freelancers who can produce a one-minute spot for a relatively cheap price. Publishers could either recommend to their advertisers a good third-party vidoegrapher or partner with one to create and sell videos for a profit as part of the campaign package. Often a staff or freelance photographer already working with the publication can produce such a video quickly and inexpensively.
